Never Miss Twice

I’ve recently received back a book that I lent out, I believe is one of the best books I’ve read.

Its subject is all about habits and how we develop them, good & bad.

It’s called Atomic Habits by James Clear and is well worth a purchase.

I’ve just got it back from a member I lent it to and I’ve just lent it straight back out.

This person has already said that they have only just started it but love the content.

It made me think back to the main points I learnt from the book.

One powerful one that I try and use all the time now is “habit stacking”

If you want to develop a new habit, attach it to another habit you already do on a daily basis.

For example, when brushing your teeth, take your supplements.

Another great lesson I learnt from the book is “never miss twice”.

I now use this tactic with any members who have had issues with training or nutrition and feel bad about it.

If you’ve missed a workout?

Or had a bad meal?

Don’t beat yourself up and go on the bender.

Just get back to your meal planner the time you eat, and/or plan your next gym session in as soon as you can.

Missing one workout happens but missing two or three is a choice – don’t make that choice, make a better decision and get in the gym asap.

You may have had a McDonalds for lunch, but you should now say to yourself, “I’m definitely going to have a healthy, high protein, low carb meal next time I eat”.

We can’t always be perfect but we can avoid the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lapses.

As soon as you mess up – get back to what you should be doing.

You are only one decision away from being back on track.
