As an indicator if someone is good or bad at their job.
I’m sure you’ve got some funny ones to let us know about.
The personal training world is no different.
If you’ve gone to a trainer for help as your weight loss & body shape results have stalled…
….and their answer is “Why don’t you just go for a run?”
Sack them now!
If they haven’t bothered to spend the time looking at your nutrition, training frequency, sleep, stress, hormones, digestion, feelings to name a few.
They don’t really know what they are doing or can’t be arsed trying to help.
This isn’t saying a run can’t help, but it shouldn’t be the first & only answer to weight loss plateaus.
At THQ we prioritise weight training as it has so many variables that can be tweaked or added to smash through plateaus.
Focusing on this way before adding in any long boring cardio.
And one element of training that we are certain can smash a weight loss plateau is INTENSITY.
As long as you’ve perfected form, intensity is something everyone needs a bit more focus on.
If you are just going through the motions of flinging a weight from point A to B, and looking around the room not concentrating.
You are wasting your time in the gym.
Every set and rep you do should be of utter most focus on the muscle you are working, to the point where you can’t think of anything else.
This is good training intensity.
And what most people lack when they are training in the gym.
Most people are just aiming to get hot, sweaty and out of breath.
This may make them feel like they have had a productive gym session, but they will notice that their body shape doesn’t change much.
But if you have a trainer that will spend that time working on your form, whilst pushing up intensity to keep you outside of your comfort zone (in a safe and controlled way).
This is where plateaus are smashed.
If you think that you are a person who needs to do more cardio, because you don’t see results from all the hard work you put in the gym.
Next time you are in the gym, add that little extra effort and focus on each and every rep/set.
It may not seem like you are doing much more but results will soon follow.
