The Sofa’s Lying to You

I can’t go anywhere these days without bumping into members.

Some I’ve trained in the past, and some I’ve never even met, which is amazing.

Supermarket.

Street.

Train station.

Even at football matches.

And every time it happens, it’s the same.

Big smile.

A quick chat.

And usually something along the lines of, “Hey, just wanted to tell you I’m still strength training at Transformation HQ. Loving it. Never felt so fit, strong and alive.”

What really gets me is the ones who say this in their 50s, 60s, even 70s.

I prefer calling them the “seasoned” members.

They’ve lived a bit more life, they’ve seen a few things, and yet here they are … still training, still pushing, still getting stronger.

That’s the stuff that gives me goosebumps.

Because it smashes the whole “I’m just getting old” excuse into a thousand pieces.

You know the one.

Someone feels tired, stiff, out of shape, and shrugs it off with “Well, it’s my age.”

Absolute nonsense.

You’re not tired because of your age.

You’re tired because your muscles have clocked off.

And the less you move, the worse it gets.

Most people don’t lose strength because they’re old.

They get old because they lose strength.

Big difference.

We’ve got people in their 50s, 60s, 70s in our gyms every week doing more than they thought possible.

Not to compete.

Not to get shredded.

But to stay sharp.

To stay active.

To stay in control of their life.

They don’t want to get out of breath walking upstairs.

They don’t want help carrying the shopping.

They don’t want to sit on the floor and then panic about how they’re going to get back up.

They want to live.

Properly.

With energy.

With confidence.

With strength.

That strength comes from lifting.

Doesn’t matter if you’re 32 or 72 … your body responds.

And fast.

Within weeks you sleep better.

Your joints hurt less.

You’ve got more zip in your day.

You get a bit of swagger back.

Because your body remembers.

It’s just waiting for you to give it a reason to switch back on.

And the beautiful thing is, it’s never too late.

I’ve seen women who hadn’t stepped foot in a gym in 40 years lifting barbells with perfect form and saying, “I feel more alive now than I did in my thirties.”

That’s not rare.

That’s routine at Transformation HQ.

But here’s what no one tells you.

You don’t need to train six days a week.

You don’t need to starve yourself.

You don’t need to be “into fitness.”

You just need to show up.

Get through three smart sessions a week.

And commit to getting a bit better, not perfect.

You’ll build muscle.

You’ll feel younger.

And you’ll stop blaming your age for things that are actually down to inactivity.

The sofa is not your mate.

It’s not helping.

It’s not “rest.”

It’s the start of the slow slide into everything feeling harder.

You don’t need to throw it out.

But you do need to balance it out.

With strength.

With movement.

With something that keeps you ready for life, not hiding from it.

So next time you catch yourself saying “I’m getting old,” stop.

Switch it.

Say “I need to get strong.”

Because that’s the truth.

That’s the fix.

And when you’ve got strength on your side, age is just a number.
