Darren was struggling with his body shape. He was feeling fed up of being out of shape, unfit and not very healthy.
Years of eating too many takeaways & not enough time in the gym made Darren get the classic dad bod.
He had tried eating healthy and going to the gym in the past but never saw results, so would always throw in the towel.
That was until one day he decided to pop into THQ, the “mysterious” place he walked past most days.
He saw the results that we were churning out, people of all ages & sizes and he fancied a go.

Why did you first start at THQ?
I just felt that I was too young at 44 to feel that fed up with my body shape and really wanted to test myself to see if I could stick to a structured programme. THQ was a mysterious place I had walked past many times (usually on my way to the takeaway) and so I decided to commit myself fully for 6 weeks.
What made you start the 12 week shoot?
By then, I had already been a member for two months and had seen some great changes in my body. I had also developed some great habits with food tracking so the shoot was an obvious progression for me. Of course, training in an environment where you are surrounded by pictures of people who have done a shoot is also inspiring and at this stage, I was starting to really believe that I was capable of doing something I had never done before.
Have you achieved your body shape goal? What exactly have you achieved?
I’ve lost 51lb in total and gone from a size 38 waist to a 32 and from a 44 chest to a 40. I haven’t finished yet, as I want to build some more lean muscle. Most of all, I’ve achieved a much deeper understanding of the principles of nutrition and training that will last me a lifetime. I think what people need to understand about THQ is that it isn’t just a gym – it’s a holistic approach to health that really does equip you with everything you need to make permanent changes to your life. Just have faith in the process, turn up, and give it 100% and you can’t fail.
How do you feel about your achievement?
Quite honestly, I barely recognise myself in the mirror. I never thought I’d be able to achieve what I have in just 5 months and it gives me great confidence for what I can achieve on the next stage of my development. My positive habits are so entrenched now that they have become second nature and require minimal effort to maintain.
What have you most enjoyed about at THQ?
The coaches and facilities are great, as is the fact that the sessions change regularly so you never get bored. Having access to the strength room to focus on particular body parts is great, but by far the most enjoyable thing about THQ is the sense of community and comradeship that you get in each session. Because each session is numbers limited, you feel like you get to know people really well and exchange food ideas, workout tips and also share when you are struggling for motivation. There’s always someone who can help you out.
What would you say to anyone thinking about starting at THQ?
I’m telling you now, that if a 44 year old father of four with a shocking amount of body fat can turn it around, that you need to just get in touch with THQ – it’ll change your life in ways you never thought possible.
