Mum of two, ditched the cardio for weights and hasn’t looked back
Katie has developed a toned, defined and stronger body by lifting weights for the first time in her life.
Katie had always been a fit and active person, always out doing cardio, but results were at a standstill.
Frustrated that she couldn’t achieve that toned and defined look, she knew she needed to do something different.
She had seen that lifting weights was good for toning and decided it was time to give it ago.
But Katie had never lifted weights before and didn’t want to go into a gym on her own and look stupid. So, she went on the hunt for some professional help.
She discovered THQ and liked the look of the before and after photos we had.
A major concern was that she didn’t want to get too big and bulky, but the ladies on our before and after photos look slim, toned and defined.
“I joined THQ shortly after they opened the High Lane gym and after seeing the transformation posts on Facebook. I have always been active but after having two children I felt I had let my fitness go. When I attended the induction meeting, I was sceptical that the impressive results I was seeing posted around the walls of the gym were achieved by using weights only, especially as I had always been a cardio type of person but spurred on by what I was seeing I joined and reasoned if I didn’t like it, I would leave at the end of the six-week trial period. Nearly twelve months later I am still going and I absolutely thrive on it.”
Katie started on our 6 week meltdown which introduces how to lift weights for body shaping, alongside a healthy eating plan – she saw more changes in the 6 weeks than she had in years.
Now THQ had proven that lifting weights makes females slimmer, toned, fitter and stronger – she wanted to take it to the next level.
Which at THQ is the 12 week shoot.
It’s a more advanced and longer version of our 6 week program, it’s not for vanity, more accountability.
On the shoot, Katie lost 13lbs and 10 inches, which is super impressive as she didn’t have a lot to lose in the first place.
“Prior to the shoot I had never counted calories before or looked at my nutrition, but they guided me every step of the way and even provided tasty and delicious recipes to follow.”
“Whilst on the shoot, they continually checked in on me to check how I was doing, how my progress was and if I needed any advice or help. In the gym they checked my form and encouraged me to lift heavier when I needed the extra boost.”
Katie completed her shoot last year (2020) and had a lockdown right towards the end of the shoot! For most people, this would be the perfect opportunity to throw in the towel.

“The gym has been my constant and saviour, even during lockdown 1 and 2 when they expertly took everything online. Haven completed the twelve week shoot and I am over the moon with the results. I wanted to look fit, healthy and strong and I really do!!
As with everything with THQ, it’s a really simple and easy process which they guide you through each and every step of the way. I am a busy working Mum with two young kids and a husband that works away so fitting in gym sessions isn’t always easy. However, the timetable they offer is really flexible and the booking app an absolute god send.
The sessions are hard, but that’s what I like as you push yourself to the best of your ability and get impressive results. I can’t praise the trainers, Will and Jack (THQ High Lane head coach and trainer), enough.”
We asked Katie what she would say to anyone thinking about starting or wanting to start lifting weights for the first time….
“It can be daunting starting at a new gym, however alongside Will and Jack, I have found everyone to be really welcoming, friendly and down to earth. The small group sessions mean it’s not intimidating in the slightest. Don’t be self-conscious or worried about joining, just go for it. As long as you are committed and follow the plans and advice given you will lose weight and build muscle. I am genuinely in the best shape of my life and that’s down to THQ. I have learnt how to follow a healthy lifestyle and I feel so much better for it.”
Katie feared that lifting weights would make her look bulky – she soon realised that she needn’t had worried.
Dropping 13lbs and 10 inches, by starting at THQ and completing a shoot made her stronger, fitter, more toned & defined than she has ever been in her life.
