Don’t Let a Slip Turn Into a Slide

This Monday started off chaotic for me.

I was meant to have a steady morning of laptop tasks, enjoy a coffee, and write one of my weekly emails like I usually do.

But life had other plans.

One of our trainers became unwell, and I had to jump in and cover the early sessions.

Suddenly, my morning wasn’t about writing or prepping for the week ahead—it was about making sure everything ran smoothly.

By the time I’d finished, I was already behind on my usual routine, staring at a crammed day of responsibilities, including my afternoon and evening sessions.

Usually, my Monday mornings are when I focus on getting one of my two weekly emails out.

I like to share tips, advice, or something useful wrapped in some entertainment.

But here I was—Monday afternoon already—with nothing written and no time to spare.

It’s moments like these when it’s easy to let things slide.

I could’ve said, “I’ll just wait till next week, as the two-email-a-week plan is out the window” and pushed everything back.

But this is exactly when the “get back on track quickly” mindset matters most.

Whether it’s fitness or life in general, perfection isn’t the goal.

Life gets messy, and things don’t always go to plan—especially when it comes to training and nutrition.

What matters is how quickly you bounce back after things slip.

If you miss a workout because something came up, don’t miss the next one.

If you have a meal that’s way off plan, the next one should get you back on track.

Didn’t drink enough water today?

No problem—just aim to hit your target tomorrow.

It’s such a simple idea, but it can be a game changer.

Without it, you fall into the trap of saying, “I’ll start again next Monday” or “I’ll get back on track next month.”

That’s when a single slip-up turns into weeks or months of lost progress.

After running those early sessions, instead of letting the morning chaos keep me off track, I squeezed in some time later to get tasks done, plan this email, and keep things moving.

And that’s the point.

You don’t have to wait for the perfect time—you just need to start again as soon as you can.

This principle works in every area of life, but it’s especially important in fitness.

We all have those days when things don’t go to plan.

Maybe you miss a workout, eat off-plan, or didn’t get enough sleep.

It happens to all of us.

But it’s not about punishing yourself or waiting for the next “clean slate.”

It’s about using the next opportunity to get back on track.

That meant getting back to my emails, even though the day hadn’t gone as planned.

For you, it might mean getting back into the gym after missing a session or choosing a healthy meal after a high-calorie indulgent one.

It is important not to let one slip-up turn into a string of them.

The quicker you get back on track, the less likely you are to lose momentum.

It’s not about being perfect—it’s about persistence.

You don’t need to wait for Monday or next month to start fresh.

Just do it at your next opportunity.

So, if you’ve slipped up recently, don’t wait for the “perfect time.”

Get back on track as soon as you can, and keep moving forward.

That’s exactly what I did last Monday—chaos and all.

And now, here I am, back on track and ready to tackle the rest of the week.

Because in the end, it’s not about getting everything perfect.

It’s about making progress and keeping things moving.
