Stay Calm, Reroute & Keep Progressing

So, I was sitting at Brussels Airport last week, ready for a connecting 9:30 pm flight to Porto.

My plan was simple: land by 11 p.m, head to the hotel, rest up, and start fresh the next day.

But, as travel often goes, things didn’t run smoothly.

The flight was delayed by 4.5 hours.

Not great, but I thought, “It’s just a late night, I’ll still get there.”

Then, as we finally boarded, the pilot announced: “We’re rerouting to Madrid instead of Porto.”

Yep, Madrid.

So, instead of arriving in Portugal, I found myself in Spain at 4 am, no plan, no bed, and a lot of waiting.

Eventually, I caught a 7 am flight and made it to Porto, much later (and more tired) than I expected.

The whole experience made me realise how similar travel can be to fitness.

You set off with a clear plan, feeling motivated, but something always seems to throw you off.

It’s frustrating because it feels like you’ve lost control.

But just like my trip, you’ll still reach your destination, even if it takes longer or has unexpected detours.

We’ve all had weeks where things don’t go as planned with our training or nutrition.

You start with energy, ready to crush your workouts, but life gets in the way.

Work piles up, family commitments take over, or maybe you overindulge on a weekend.

Suddenly, you feel like you’ve fallen behind.

It’s easy to think that your progress is ruined once things go off track, but that’s not the case.

Setbacks happen to everyone.

No one’s journey is a straight line.

There will always be delays, detours, and bumps in the road, and that’s okay.

Just because my flight ended up in Madrid didn’t mean I wasn’t going to reach Porto.

It’s the same with fitness.

Missing a workout or having a bad week with nutrition doesn’t mean you won’t hit your goals.

It just means you need to adjust, reroute, and keep going.

It’s like missing a connecting flight when we miss a workout or stray from our nutrition plan.

You’re stuck and frustrated, but there’s always another option.

You can always get back on track, even if it feels like you’re behind.

One setback shouldn’t make you give up on the whole journey.

I could’ve been annoyed when my flight didn’t go as planned, but I stayed calm and kept moving forward.

The same mindset applies to fitness.

A bad day or week doesn’t define your progress.

What matters is that you don’t quit and you keep pushing forward.

We all want fast results, but progress can take time.

It can feel like it’s dragging on forever, and you start to wonder if you’ll ever get there.

But trust me—you will.

Just like I made it to Porto, you’ll reach your fitness goals too.

It might take longer than you want, and there might be a few unexpected stops, but you’ll get there.

So, if you’ve had a “bad” weekend or feel like your progress has stalled the last few weeks, don’t stress.

It’s just a temporary detour.

You can reset, reroute, and get back on track.

The journey might take longer than expected, but arriving at your goal is what matters most.

And when you do get there, all the delays and setbacks will be worth it.

Life’s unpredictable, both in travel and fitness, but if you stay focused and flexible, you’ll always find your way.

Whether it’s dealing with a delayed flight or a missed workout, how you handle the bumps along the way matters.

Keep calm, keep going, and trust that you’ll reach your destination.
