This week’s been a bit of a slow one for me.
My back’s been playing up, so I’ve not moved much.
Instead, I’ve worked a lot more on laptop jobs.
But also spent more time doing rehab mobility exercises, catching up on podcasts, and staring out the window at the awful ice and snow.
One of the podcasts I listened to told a story that got me thinking.
It was about a family desperate to leave the UK for a fresh start in Australia.
They wanted better weather, a slower pace of life, and more time to be fitter and healthier.
At first, I thought, “Fair enough, sounds like a dream.”
But as the story went on, it became clear they were hoping the move would magically fix all their problems.
Stress, poor work-life balance, and a lack of direction.
I get it.
It’s tempting to think a big change will solve everything.
But the truth is, it’s not always the external stuff that needs fixing.
Sometimes, it’s about making small, consistent changes to your day-to-day life.
For example, I bet your life would level up if you started doing these three things:
- Lift weights 3 times a week
- Eat more protein
- Walk 10,000 steps a day
That’s it.
Three simple habits that might not sound like much, but when you stick to them, they add up to massive changes.
Think about it.
Lifting weights builds strength and confidence.
It makes your body feel capable and improves your energy levels.
Eating more protein helps you recover, keeps you full, and supports fat loss.
And walking?
It clears your mind, gets you moving, and boosts your overall health and increases overall calorie burn.
None of these are groundbreaking, but that’s the point.
Big results don’t come from fancy solutions but from doing the basics consistently over time.
And the best part?
You don’t need perfect conditions to start.
You don’t need the weather to improve, a brand-new bike to start getting fit, or even hours of free time.
You just need to take small steps every day.
This week reminded me of that.
My back’s not going to magically fix itself, but the mobility work I’ve been doing will pay off if I stick to it.
The same applies to your health and fitness goals.
You don’t need to overhaul your entire life; you just need to focus on the small changes that make a big impact.
Start lifting weights three times a week; even 2 sessions can work, or home workouts when they suit.
Prioritise protein at every meal.
Go for a 20-minute walk after dinner to build up your steps.
It’s not about being perfect; it’s about showing up and doing the work, even on the tough days.
If you’re consistent, these habits will compound over time, and the results will speak for themselves.
You’ll feel stronger, have more energy, and find that life just feels easier to handle.
And the best part?
You won’t have to move to the other side of the world to feel that fresh start to live the active Aussie lifestyle.
You can create it right here, right now, by focusing on what’s in your control.
So, before you start searching for external solutions, take a look at what you can change today.
Three simple habits: lift, eat protein, and walk.
They’re small, but they’ll change everything.
