You’ve seen those videos.
Sat in the car.
“Can’t be bothered today with the gym.”
Then cut to after the session… “So glad I came.”
Bit cringe now.
Everyone’s doing it.
But it sticks because it’s bang on.
You don’t regret training.
You regret sacking it off.
Problem is, that doesn’t help much when you’re sat there at 6pm, knackered, phone in hand.
Because this is how it actually goes.
You finish work.
Sit down “for five minutes.”
Phone comes out.
Next thing… it’s 7:15pm.
You’ve watched three gym clips, two takeaways, and someone on holiday.
You’ve done everything except the thing you said you’d do.
Then it’s “I’ll go tomorrow.”
That’s where most people lose it.
Not in the gym.
On the sofa.
I’m not pretending I’m any different today either.
Busy week.
Head’s fried.
Bit low on energy.
Got stuff to sort before I’m away this weekend.
Easy excuse list is there if I want it.
Could skip it.
No one would care.
But I know exactly what happens if I do.
I’ll sit around, pick at food, feel a bit off.
Tell myself I’ll “be better tomorrow.”
Then Monday rolls round and I’m starting again.
Same cycle.
So I’ll go anyway.
Not because I’m up for it.
Just because I said I would.
And I know how it plays out.
First 10 minutes feel heavy.
Then you settle in.
By the end, you’re fine.
Walk out thinking, “Why was I even debating that?”
Happens every time.
That’s the bit you need to get.
You don’t need motivation.
You need a rule.
Simple one:
If it’s a training day, you train.
No debate.
No mood check.
That alone sorts most people out.
Keep it basic as well:
• 3 to 4 sessions a week
• 45 minutes
• Stick to the plan instead of making it up
• Log your lifts. Try beat something small each week
• Eat 3 proper meals with protein. Not snacks all day
• Get 8 to 10k steps. Walk after dinner if needed
Do that consistently and your body changes.
It’s not complicated.
What messes it up is this:
• Skipping Friday because you’re tired
• Doing nothing Saturday because “weekend”
• Saying you’ll reset Monday
That’s half your week gone every single week.
You don’t need a better plan.
You need to stop dropping days.
And most of those dropped days start the same way.
Phone out.
Time gone.
Decision made for you.
So be a bit more direct with it.
If you’ve got time to scroll for an hour, you’ve got time to train.
You’re just choosing one over the other.
No drama.
Just the truth.
So today, keep it simple.
Don’t sit down when you get in.
Get changed straight away.
Go before your brain starts negotiating.
Even if it’s not your best session.
Even if you’re in and out in 40 minutes.
That still counts.
That still moves things forward.
Because the sessions that actually change how you look?
They’re the ones you nearly don’t do.
And if you stack a few of those each week…
Everything starts to shift.
Less overthinking.
Less stop-start.
More momentum.
That’s how people actually get in shape.
Not big bursts.
Just not missing the obvious days.
So if you’re hovering tonight…
Go.
Get it done.
Then get on with your weekend knowing you didn’t bottle it again.
