What keeps a personal trainer motivated?

This week I thought I’d offer an insight of a trainer’s mind! Well my mind as a trainer and business owner.

As we are at the beginning of the week I usually start with a mindset email/post.

So today will discuss what MOTIVATES me to stay in shape, keep training regularly and eating well.

Other than the obvious that I like the lean athletic look, feeling stronger & fitter, having more energy.

These factors are the outcomes of the daily habits I have developed.

But what makes me keep doing the daily habits?

As these habits aren’t really exciting;

  • Hit calories and protein target
  • Drink 3-4 litres of water
  • Sleep 7-9 hours (if shifts allow)
  • Strength train for 45 mins
  • Take 8,000-10,000 steps

After months and years of practise I really don’t even notice I’m doing them and it just becomes routine.

Just like brushing your teeth – you do it for the outcome (not losing your teeth) rather than actual process or the feeling of brushing your teeth.

So, to answer “where does my motivation comes from?” my motivation doesn’t really come from anywhere – it’s just habits I repeat without acknowledgement.

Meaning I don’t have to look to other people, fitness models, television, magazines as an external motivation factor. Mine comes internally which means its endless and strong.

Develop making the above habits your habits and you will not need to keep looking for external motivation factors.

At the end of the week, I will show you what a personal trainer buys at the supermarket.

Have a great week – get working on developing those good daily habits!
