Hold the Line

I was reading the news this week and, as usual, the headlines were full of panic.

Stock markets down.

Billions wiped off shares.

Investors rushing to sell.

The same old story.

It happens every time there’s a dip.

People freak out, cash out, and then kick themselves when things bounce back.

I get it.

Nobody likes to see their money shrink.

But you don’t lose money unless you sell.

The people who hold their nerve, ride it out, and even buy more when prices drop.

They come out on top in the long run.

I saw this firsthand with my own stocks and a bit of crypto.

Prices tanked, my portfolio looked a mess.

And even though I know my plan and have seen this a few times before, for a split second, I had that little voice in my head saying, “Maybe I should sell before it gets worse.”

But I know how this works.

The dips don’t last.

So I held, and I’ll probably even buy more while it’s cheap.

Because in a year, two years, five years…it won’t matter what happened this week.

What matters is staying the course.

This same mindset applies to fitness.

Most people panic when things don’t go perfectly.

They start the gym, miss a couple of workouts, eat something they “shouldn’t,” step on the scales and don’t like what they see… and suddenly, they’re quitting.

Throwing in the towel.

Selling too soon.

But just like the stock market, progress doesn’t come from short-term wins.

It comes from showing up, sticking with it, and not overreacting when things don’t go to plan.

I had a message from one of our new members at Whaley Bridge this week.

He’s someone who, in the past, would have given up after a week or two.

But this time, he stuck with it.

Just five weeks in, he’s already seeing progress in the mirror.

He has more energy.

And the biggest win?

His blood pressure has dropped so much that his doctor might take him off medication.

Imagine if he had quit after week two.

If he had panicked and thought, “Ah, this isn’t working.”

He’d still be stuck where he was.

Low energy, struggling with his health, missing out on the rewards that only come from sticking with it.

This is the difference between people who get results and people who don’t.

It’s not about perfection.

It’s about patience.

It’s about showing up even when you don’t feel like it, trusting the process, and knowing that just because progress isn’t obvious today doesn’t mean it’s not happening.

We live in a world where everyone wants quick wins.

Instant results.

If something doesn’t work right away, we move on to the next thing.

But real results.

The ones that change your body, your health, your energy, your confidence.

Come from playing the long game.

The stock market teaches us that.

The gym teaches us that.

Life teaches us that.

So don’t be the person who sells too soon.

The person who gives up when things get tough.

The person who misses out on what could have been, just because results didn’t come fast enough.

Trust the process.

Keep going.

And in a few months, you’ll be looking back, just like that member, thinking, “I’m so glad I stuck with this.”
