Got up this morning, made a coffee, and switched on the radio for the news.
Half-listening as I took the first sip, I heard something that made me do a double take.
The UK is set to be warmer than Ibiza this week.
Sounds mad, doesn’t it?
One minute we’re layering up against the cold, the next we’re wondering if we should be in shorts.
And while this little heatwave might not last, it’s a reminder that summer isn’t as far away as we think.
It creeps up on us every year.
Before you know it, the days are longer, beer gardens are buzzing, and holidays are just around the corner.
And with it comes that sudden realisation.
Am I actually feeling good in my own skin?
Do I have the energy to enjoy summer properly?
Let’s be honest.
The whole ‘summer body’ thing isn’t for everyone.
Some people couldn’t care less about abs or the perfect beach look.
And that’s fair enough.
But here’s the real reason to get moving: energy, strength, and feeling good every day instead of sluggish and tired.
Ever hit that mid-afternoon wall where you just want to nap?
Or finish the day feeling drained, like you’ve run a marathon even though you’ve barely moved?
That’s what we’re talking about fixing.
And the good news?
It’s not complicated.
If you focus on getting stronger, eating well, and looking after yourself, you’ll be amazed at what happens.
Not just in summer, but all year round.
Here’s how you do it.
Train three to four times a week with resistance training. Lifting weights or doing bodyweight exercises will build strength, shape your body, and boost your energy levels.
Eat three high-protein meals a day to keep you full, fuel your body, and stop cravings.
Minimise snacking, not saying never, but if your meals are solid, you won’t need to snack mindlessly.
Drink two to four litres of water daily because more hydration means better energy, clearer thinking, and fewer sluggish afternoons.
Sleep seven to nine hours a night, since recovery is where the magic happens. Sleep well, and everything feels easier.
Walk eight to ten thousand steps a day. Moving more, even in small ways, adds up massively.
Do this for eight to twelve weeks and see what happens.
More energy, better sleep, stronger muscles, and yes, a body that feels good to live in, whatever summer throws at us.
You don’t need to wait until it’s the right time to start.
That perfect moment doesn’t exist.
The best thing you can do is start now, even if it’s small steps.
The hardest part?
Just walking through the door.
So if you’re already training, keep at it.
Summer is your reward.
